This Privacy Policy explains how PsychroCalc handles information when you use the PsychroCalc and FieldSDR Android applications. It also explains the preferences stored by the PsychroCalc website. Features and services described below apply only where they are available in the app you use.
Who We Are
PsychroCalc and FieldSDR are provided by PsychroCalc. For support or privacy-related requests, contact [email protected].
Neither app requires you to create an account with PsychroCalc. Google Play purchases and some third-party services may use your account with that provider.
What We Collect
Information You Send Us
If you contact us, we receive the information you choose to provide, such as your email address, message, and any attachments. Avoid sending recordings, survey exports, or other files containing information you do not want us to receive.
PsychroCalc Calculations
PsychroCalc uses the values you enter to calculate air and moisture properties and process results. Feature-usage analytics may record that you used a calculation or tool.
FieldSDR Receiver Data, Recordings, and Settings
FieldSDR processes receiver samples and radio messages to provide spectrum displays, audio, decoding, and aircraft tracking. Its recordings may contain audio, raw IQ samples, timestamps, frequency and receiver settings, and other capture metadata. Settings, presets, and saved survey sessions may also be stored on your device.
Recording and survey files are saved on your device or in a folder you select. FieldSDR does not automatically upload those files to a PsychroCalc-operated storage service. If you export, share, or choose a folder managed by a cloud-storage provider, that provider or recipient handles the files under its own practices.
FieldSDR Location and Surveys
With your permission, FieldSDR uses your device location to position maps and associate RF measurements with survey points. Survey data can include precise latitude and longitude, location accuracy, timestamps, receiver settings, and signal measurements.
A survey you start can continue collecting location while it runs in a foreground service, including when the app is in the background. Stopping the survey stops its survey location updates. You can change or revoke location access in Android settings; features that need location may then be limited.
Map requests can reveal the area you are viewing, which may correspond to your location or survey area. Locally saved survey files and exported copies can contain precise locations, so consider their contents before sharing them.
Usage Analytics
We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand app usage and improve the apps. Information may include app opens, screen views, feature actions, session information, app version, device and operating-system information, app-instance identifiers, and approximate location derived from IP address.
FieldSDR records workflow events such as receiver start and stop, mode changes, recording and survey actions, and purchase attempts. Its custom analytics events do not include GPS coordinates, tuned frequencies, survey names, recording filenames, network addresses, or decoded message contents. This describes FieldSDR's custom events, not all data handled by third-party SDKs or diagnostics.
Crash and Error Diagnostics
FieldSDR uses Firebase Crashlytics, including native crash reporting, to identify crashes and technical errors. Reports may include installation identifiers, app and device information, stack traces, error messages, and diagnostic context. Native crash reports can include crash-time process information used to diagnose the failure.
Advertising and Consent
We use Google AdMob where ads are displayed. Google's advertising SDK may collect or share IP addresses, approximate location derived from IP address, advertising or other device identifiers, app interactions, and diagnostic information for advertising, measurement, analytics, and fraud prevention.
FieldSDR uses Google's User Messaging Platform to obtain consent information and present available advertising privacy choices. Where required, you can reopen the ad privacy choices from Settings. Buying ad-free access disables FieldSDR's banner ads; it does not disable analytics, crash reporting, maps, or other network features.
Purchases
FieldSDR uses Google Play Billing for its ad-free purchase and restoration. The app receives purchase information, such as product identifiers, purchase tokens, purchase status, and acknowledgement status, to manage access. Google Play handles payment processing; FieldSDR does not receive your full payment-card details.
Maps, Aircraft Lookups, and Network Sources
FieldSDR connects to external services when you use online maps or aircraft information and photos:
- Google Maps: map display can involve requests for the area shown, device and SDK metadata, IP address, a Maps SDK identifier, diagnostic information, and map interactions.
- OpenStreetMap: map-tile requests identify the map area requested. The tile provider can also receive your IP address and request information.
- HexDB, Planespotters.net, and Airport-Data.com: aircraft lookups can send an aircraft ICAO address or registration. Providers and image hosts also receive ordinary network-request information, such as your IP address and the app's user-agent information.
- Your receiver or feed: when you configure rtl_tcp or a dump1090/readsb feed, FieldSDR connects to the address you provide. That server's operator may receive connection information. User-selected HTTP feeds and raw receiver connections may be unencrypted.
- External links: opening an aircraft, provider, or support link uses your browser or another app, whose privacy practices also apply.
Aircraft identifiers used for lookups describe the selected aircraft, rather than a PsychroCalc user account. The lookup services still receive network information from the requesting device.
How We Use Information
We use information to:
- provide calculations, receiver features, recordings, surveys, maps, and aircraft information;
- save your preferences and manage purchased features;
- understand feature usage and improve usability, reliability, and performance;
- diagnose crashes and errors;
- serve and measure ads where enabled, and manage advertising privacy choices;
- respond to support and privacy requests.
Third-Party Services
Third-party providers handle information under their own policies and applicable service terms. You can find more information here:
- Firebase Privacy and Security — analytics and crash diagnostics.
- Google Mobile Ads data disclosures — advertising SDK data handling.
- Google Privacy Policy — Google services, including Maps and Google Play.
- Maps SDK for Android data disclosures.
- OpenStreetMap Foundation Privacy Policy.
- HexDB, Planespotters.net, and Airport-Data.com — aircraft information and photo providers.
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. Information is processed by service providers as described above, including services for analytics, diagnostics, advertising, maps, aircraft lookups, and purchases. Advertising providers may use or share information under their own policies and the privacy choices available to you.
We may disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the apps, or as part of a business transfer. Files you deliberately share or export are provided to the destination you choose.
Retention and Local Files
We retain support messages and information you send us for as long as reasonably necessary to handle the request, operate the apps, meet legal obligations, and resolve disputes. Analytics, advertising, and diagnostic data are retained according to the relevant provider's policies and our service settings.
Recordings, surveys, presets, and settings stored locally remain until you delete them or remove the relevant app data. Files exported to a selected folder, shared with another person, or copied to a cloud service may remain after uninstalling the app. Delete those copies separately through the relevant file manager or service.
Android backup and device-transfer settings may preserve eligible app preferences. FieldSDR excludes its app-managed recording and survey directories from Android backup; separately selected folders and cloud-provider copies follow the destination's settings.
Your Choices
- Grant, limit, or revoke location, notification, and other app permissions through Android settings.
- Stop an active survey or receiver session from the app's controls.
- Review available advertising privacy choices in FieldSDR Settings and your device's advertising settings.
- Choose which network sources and optional map or lookup features you use.
- Delete saved recordings, surveys, and exported copies you no longer need.
- Contact us about information you have provided directly.
FieldSDR currently does not offer a general in-app switch to turn off all analytics and diagnostics. Ad-free access changes advertising, not these other services. Uninstalling an app stops that app's future activity on the device but does not automatically delete previously collected provider data or exported files.
Privacy and Deletion Requests
To request access to, correction of, or deletion of information we directly control, contact [email protected]. Tell us which app and information your request concerns. We may need enough information to locate the relevant records and verify the request.
Because the apps do not use PsychroCalc accounts, we may not be able to associate a particular analytics or diagnostic record with you. Google and other providers also have their own privacy controls and request procedures. We cannot delete copies you exported to another service or sent to another person.
Website Preferences
The PsychroCalc website saves your light or dark theme preference in your browser's local storage. You can remove that preference by clearing this site's browser storage. Visiting the website also sends ordinary connection information, such as your IP address and requested pages, to the hosting service so it can deliver the site.
Children's Privacy
PsychroCalc and FieldSDR are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us so we can address it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as app features or data practices change. We will post the updated version on this page and revise the date above.
